Cops to get info from PU, DAV-10

CHANDIGARH: Having failed in nabbing the accused and keeping tab on students with criminal backgrounds, UT police have now written to both Panjab University and DAV College, Sector 10, authorities to submit the academic details of those involved in violent incidents in the past. Cops have also directed educational institute authorities to maintain liaison with the police so such incidents can be avoided.

Sources said that in most such cases, UT police had just the temporary addresses of the accused, which they kept changing.

In others, cops had fake addresses and therefore, could not arrest anyone.

ASP (central) Deshraj Singh said, ''We have asked for academic details of both present and past students involved in criminal incidents to cross-check some details with our existing data. This exercise will also help us strengthen our investigation related to recent student clashes.''

Pulling up their socks to prevent such incidents in future, cops have intensified patrolling on PU campus and deployed 25 personnel at various points, including three gates of the varsity. College authorities have also been briefed in this regard.

A few days back, cops had held a special meeting with PU authorities in which it was stated that wardens would keep tab on the activities of hostels and immediately inform cops if they found any outsiders there.

PU's chief security officer was also asked to maintain liaison with the police and to get the vehicles entering the campus checked properly.

Police have failed to nab even a single accused in recent incidents of student clashes at DAV College and in Sector 40.

Sources in the police revealed that cops had conducted raids at possible hideouts of the accused, but failed to gather any concrete information regarding them.
