AICTE sees a rush for admission

AICTE sees a rush for admission

After the relaxation of conditions by AICTE for admissions to engineering courses, about 155 candidates have submitted forms on Wednesday in the Nagpur division. TOI was first to report about AICTE's decision to lower bar for admissions to engineering courses to 45% (40% for reserved category candidates) aggregate in physics, chemistry and mathematics ( PCM) group in class XII exam from 50% till last year.

Now, any candidate scoring 135/300 (120/300 for SC/ST) is eligible for pursuing the course. However, it took AICTE almost a week to officially send the circular to the state Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) which had officially closed down the submission of forms for CAP on July 2 and halted the process.

Till then 15,440 forms were submitted. It was only on Tuesday, the DTE released the provisional merit lists for the centralized admission process for autonomous institutes (CAPAI) along with CAP schedule.

With the revised schedule, the students can submit online forms till July 8. The process for submission of online option for the first CAP Round will begin on July 19 while subsequent admission rounds will be conducted alternatively for CAPAI and CAP institutes between July 22 and September 7.

The new academic year will commence from August 4 at the five autonomous institutes and from August 22 at the non-autonomous institutes. The cut-off date for all type of admissions is September 15. Over 2.54 lakh applicants had appeared in the MHT-CET for an engineering seat, and minimum eligibility just one mark out of 200.
