30 skipped medical admissions process on 1st day in Maharashtra

NAGPUR: As the admission process for health science courses kick started from Monday, the state saw less number of students filling up the preference form than expected. Out of 900 students, 870 of them filled up the form all over the state on the first day. In the city, 132 students filled up the form out of 137 whereas 302 students out of 311 did so in Mumbai.

The situation was same in Pune where 147 students were present out of 162 and 289 were present out of 290 in Aurangabad. The process is undergoing at Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) in Nagpur and Aurangabad, Grant Medical College, Mumbai, and BJ Medical College, Pune. Over 7,000 seats in medical (MBBS), dental (BDS), ayurveda (BAMS), Unani, homeopathy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and nursing are up for the grabs in about 58 government and aided institutions along with municipal corporation colleges.

Dr Namdeo Kamdi, admission in-charge of Government Medical College (GMC), Nagpur, told TOI that some of the candidates were unable to fill the form as they failed to carry the necessary documents. "Many students didn't get vital documents like Caste Validity Certificates. We are expecting them to come in the following days of admission," he said. A student, Chetan Sonewane, who has filled up the form for a MBBS seat said, "We are well-aware of the procedure but it was quite complicated, especially the form is too long and many documents needed to be submitted,' he said.

In city, the number of candidates expected to fill form on Tuesday are 214 and around 2,895 on July 12, the last day of submission. GMC, Nagpur, will be admitting students from Akola, Washim, Yavatmal, Amravati, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara and Gondia districts. The first list of admitted candidates will be out on July 18 while the second on August 25. The list for vacant or dropout seats would be released on September 9. The cut-off date of admission for all health sciences courses is September 30.

Don't forget to carry these documents while filling up forms: The candidates must bring along with them all the relevant documents in original and one set of attested photocopies of the same for scrutiny, along with HB pencil, eraser and black ballpoint pen.

2) Nationality certificate/valid Indian passport
3) HSC (or equivalent) examination marksheet
4) SSC (or equivalent) passing certificate (for date of birth)
5) SSC (or equivalent) statement of marks
6) Medical fitness certificate
7) For constitutional reservation claim - Caste certificate, Caste Validity Certificate, and non-creamy layer certificate (for VJ, NT1, NT-2, NT-3 & OBC including SBC)
8) Specified reservation claims - Defence Category, PH claim, MKB claim, HA claim, Additional Weightage Claim, Sports, Hyderabad/Goa Liberation (HGL), Freedom Fighter (FF), and National Cadet Corps (NCC), and other certificates for claiming exemption.
