Aligarh: A high level Indonesian team headed by the Indonesian Ambassador Lt. Gen. H.M. Ghalib visited the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) to pave way for exploring mutual cooperation in the field of education and also for productive cooperation between AMU and the State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah in Jakarta.
Officiating vice chancellor S. Abrar Hasan, while presiding over the meeting, observed that interaction between AMU's senior faculty members and the visiting Indonesian team will further the cause of cooperative research and pave the way for teachers and students' exchange programme.
He said that the mutual cooperation will provide an opportunity to better understand working in a culturally different environment promoting inter-cultural cooperation.
Prof. Komaruddin Hidayat, Vice Chancellor of State Islamic University Syarif Hidayatullah, said that he was much impressed with the glorious historical contribution of AMU to modern education to look forward for building a new and vibrant relationship for strengthening their own courses and introducing new courses taking academic support from AMU.
He also expressed a desire to promote the concept of split-degree in which the students can spend two years at AMU and two years at the Indonesian university.
N.A.K. Durrani, Media Advisor and Chairman of the Department of Mass Communication at AMU gave a brief history of the varsity and its current status. He also offered to provide designing course training programme and research collaboration in the discipline of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Prof. S. Mahdi Abbas Rizvi, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology said that AMU's Engineering Faculty is a premier institution busy in imparting engineering education from a long time from diploma in engineering to research.
He further added that there was a great prospect for both the institutions for support and cooperation in this area.
