Allahabad: Girls outperformed boys in Uttar Pradesh board exams for Class 10, results of which were declared here on Friday.

"While the total pass percentage stood at 70.82, the girls' pass percentage was 76.92 as against the 66.03 pass percentage of boys," Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad director Sanjay Mohan told reporters in Allahabad, some 200 km from Lucknow.

According to officials, a total of 39,925,66 students had got themselves registered for the exams.

Though no official merit list is released by the Uttar Pradesh board, sources said that Aakash Yadav, a student from S.S.S Inter College in the state's Faizabad district, topped the exams with 92.33 percent.

A few years ago, the board officials decided to scrap the merit list, saying it created unhealthy competition among students

The Class 10 board exams were held from March-April in over 4,000 examination centres set up in 72 districts of the state. IANS
