DU to make admission process easier for disabled aspirants

New Delhi: The Delhi University, which is gearing up for another busy admission season that will commence soon, is making extra efforts to ensure that the admission procedure is easy for physically disabled aspirants.

The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) at the university has decided to write to Delhi's Ministry of Social Justice and ask them to set up camps for conducting check ups for disabled students that will help them obtain disability certificates easily.

Nisha Singh, a member of the EOC said that the university wanted to make the admission process easier for disabled students. "We want the ministry to set up health camps for students where they can be checked by a board of doctors. The students will also be given disability certificates quickly," she said.

She further informed that the admission procedure fro disabled students at the university is most likely to begin on May 28 and will continue till June 8.

Through the duration of the admission procedure for disabled students, they will have to get themselves registered under the Physically Handicapped quota. The registration of the students will take place at the office of the Dean of Students' Welfare.

1600 seats at the university are reserved each year for disabled students. The document that is most necessary for admission to DU under the disabled students quota is the disability certificate.

According to the rules of the university, a candidate should have at least 40% disability to seek admission under the quota for disabled students. The lack of a disability certificate is the biggest reason why several candidates fail to seek admission under the quota.

J.M. Khurana, Dean of Students' Welfare said that the certificate should not be older than 5 years and should also have a picture of the candidate that is recognizable.

A three-day workshop had earlier been conducted by the EOC for special educators in schools and was attended by around 300 teachers. "We informed the teachers about the admission procedure at the university and the requirements necessary for it. Our aim is to take the number of admissions under the disability quota higher this year," Nisha Singh said.

Introduction:
October 22, 2007 was a historical day for the Mahima Shiksha Samiti, the sponsoring body of the Jaipur National University, and for the Seedling Institutions of Higher Education, when the Government of Rajasthan announced the establishment of the University. Within a couple of months, after its formation, the University was honoured with approval and recognition from all the national bodies, including the University Grants Commission (UGC), under the clause 2(f) of its Act of 1956. GUIDELINES FOR FILLING ONLINE APPLICATION FORM

o Fill your email-id as the username. Enter a password (at least 6 characters).
o An email will be sent to at the email address provided by you. (Do keep your password at a safe place)
o Click on the link in the email to complete verification.
o You can change your password or retrieve a lost password by following the links provided.

FILLING A FORM
o Before starting to fill up the form, read the PG information brochure downloadable from the site.
o Choose a form as per the degree programme you are interested in applying for (M.Tech, M.S.(R), M.Des., Ph.D). Note IIT Delhi has now introduced considerable flexibility in moving from one degree programme to another. Consult prospectus after the admission.
o Before starting to fill up the form, get a demand draft of the appropriate amount. (Rs. 200/- for General/OBC Candidates and Rs. 50/- for SC/ST/PH category Candidates). Note that filling up the form online has a Rs. 100/- discount.
o Fill the form fields like your name, father’s name and mother’s name without any special characters (except “.”).
o For every department of choice only one form can be filled and in one form only one department can be chosen.
o You are allowed to fill a maximum of four choices in order of preference if multiple M.Tech programmes are offered by the selected department.
o Fill in valid demand draft details else your application would be considered null and void.
o The site does not offer automatic saving of the document. So do keep saving the form after every 15-20 minutes.
o Any errors in the form will only be displayed at the time of the submission of the form. The errors will be marked with a *.
o After a successful submission of the form an application number will be allotted to the form. A download link will be provided to save a pdf copy of the form, which is to be mailed along with demand draft to the following address: Deputy Registrar(PGS&R), IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016. Do write the application number on the back side of the draft.
o In case you forget to download the pdf copy of the form, you will have to fill the form again. However, you can use the same draft number in this form.
o Your application number will also be mailed to your email ID.

Eligibility Criteria :

Only those candidates are eligible to apply who have passed Graduation (10+2+3) or equivalent examination not before 2006; or Those candidates appearing in the final examination equivalent in 2009 are also eligible for consideration of provisional admission. All candidates who are offered provisional admission will be required to produce proof of having passed the qualifying examination (10+2+3 or equivalent) to the University authority latest by September 30, 2009 failing which, such provisional admission will stand cancelled. If the results in qualifying examinations are likely to be declared after September 30, 2009 the candidates are advised to seek admission next year as no representations for extension of dates for any reason whatsoever, shall be entertained.

Admission Procedure

Short listed applicants, based on Academic Merit, will be invited for a Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) .

Girl candidates / Wards of Defence Persons/ Candidates from J&K and North East states shall be given an additional weightage of 5%.

Group Discussion and Interview:
Group Discussion and personal interview are integral components of the admissions' process. Besides, the selection procedure also entails evaluating writing skills. The overall objective is to identify and assess the candidate’s communication ability, in addition to the overall knowledge of the student. Besides Meerut, the selection process is normally conducted at other centres including Guwahati, Kolkata, Patna, Ranchi, Jammu & Delhi. Candidates should indicate their preferred centre(s) for interview in the application form. Candidate appearing in MAT examination in May, 2009 may also apply. Their candidature for short-listing shall be considered only after submission of MAT score card, within 5 days of declaration of MAT results.
