Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala's state-run IT@School Project will empower close to two lakh differently-abled students in computer learning through a special ICT training programme, an official said on Tuesday.
As the first step, the training module for teachers has been developed using the free softwareapplication, GCompris.
Over the years, IT@School Project has enabled Kerala to become the first state in the country and a role model to other states in implementing ICT enabled education.
K. Anvar Sadath, executive director, IT@School Project, said here that the programme for differently abled students includes 119 activities which are incorporated under eight sections.
'The programme comprises various educational activities enabling the student to learn by seeing, hearing, touching and reading. These students would be able to learn ICT through this software irrespective of their physical limitations,' said Sadath.
Through this training using customized software, differential capabilities found in students such as lack of memory, attention loss and lack of hand-eye coordination could be overcome enabling the students to learn and develop much better.
'The learning process has been designed in such a way as to facilitate psychological growth for students playing different games. The narrations and letters are in Malayalam,' said Sadath.
IT@School Project was in the news when it successfully imparted ICT training to all visually challenged teachers in the state. This achievement won special appreciation from the Ministry of Human Resource Development. IANS
