NEW DELHI: Parents waving good bye or kissing all the best to their children and sometimes children touching their father's or mother's feet before stepping in through the college gate.
As DU opened its gate to the first-year students on Thursday, anxious parents — mostly outside girls' colleges — joined nervous and excited students .Parents gave them a loving look and many a times cautious advices.
Becoming nostalgic was the father of S. Shruti , Srinivas, who came to drop her to Kamala Nehru College (KNC). "I wanted to drop her on the first day but I would not in future. I understand it is time for her to fly," he said. Shurti, a B.Com (H) student, was glad that her father came along.
Purnima Gupta, Dikshita's mother, also came along. "It is the first day; the child is nervous and hesitant. I will leave as soon as she steps through the gate. I just came to give her moral support," she said, standing outside KNC.
While most came to give moral support, Tara Jaikumar joined her daughter Anagha all the way from Kerala to ensure that she settled down comfortably in the new city. "I am only here to ensure she gets a hostel or a good accommodation."
While some parents sat outside colleges, beating the heat with a hand fan; there were a few ensured their child's security from a distance. "My father has been calling me up non-stop to make sure that every thing is going fine. He had studied in DU as well and had quite bad experiences. It's slightly embarrassing to be frank," said Sangeeta Arora, a student at Sri Venkateswara College.
