BJP leader blames DMK for controversy over USSE

TIRUCHIRAPPALLI: Tamil Nadu unit BJP Vice-President H Raja today came to the defence of the AIADMK Government on the uniform system of school education issue, saying it never stated the scheme would not be implemented.

The government had only said that uniform education would not be introduced this year. It had also said it was not against the scheme, he told reporters here.

The Madras High Court yesterday struck down an amendment to the relevant act brought by the AIADMK Government to put on hold the scheme and directed it to implement USSE from this academic year.

Raja blamed the DMK for the controversy regarding the USSE and accused it of introducing athiest views in school education since it came to power for the first time in 1967.

He said the standard of education was good before 1967 leaders like Kamaraj ruled the state. Children were imparted moral lessons.

He appealed to Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to bring back that syllabus.

Referring to the free cattle scheme announced by the government, he said it had become very expensive to maintain cattle. The state government should urge the centre to ban the export of cattle feed so that cattle could be maintained at a cheaper cost.

He criticised Congress leader Digvijay Singh for his anti-RSS remarks over the terror attacks in Mumbai.
