DU Fourth Cut-Off List May Have Little to Offer

New Delhi: With the fourth cutoff list of Delhi University to get declared on July 2, it may have little to offer to general candidates aspiring for a seat. Into the second day of admissions after the third cutoff, most colleges have exhausted their general category seats across courses, leaving little for the subsequent lists.

Admissions have already been closed at Ramjas College in the third list itself. Hansraj, Miranda House and SGTB Khalsa, too, are set to close their admissions for the general candidates. However, Daulat Ram College may have few options for BA (H) philosophy, Sanskrit and BSc life sciences. Ira Pandit, media coordinator, Daulat Ram said: Though our admissions will remain open in a couple of courses we have made over-admissions in many courses. So far, we have admitted 1,180 candidates for 1077 seats. But we are expecting some withdrawals in economics, commerce and biochemistry

With a total of over 994 admissions in the general category so far, Hindu College will have nothing to offer in the fourth list except BA (H) Sanskrit. Anju Srivastava, media coordinator, Hindu College, said: As of now, barring Sanskrit (H), we will have to close admissions for general candidates. We are open in eight courses in the third list right now, but all the seats are filled up. OBC admissions will continue and we will relax the cutoff by 10% to fill up the seats.

Kirori Mal College, will keep the BCom programme open in the fourth cutoff. But, however for other courses, it is likely to close its admissions for the general category.

Sri Venkateswara College, in South Campus, will close all admissions for general candidates, while Motilal Nehru will just have Sanskrit (H) to offer. Ram Lal Anand will keep BSc (H) zoology and BA (H) Hindi open with a dip of 1% in the cutoff in the fourth list.

Nirmal Kumar, admission convener, said that most of the courses have exceeded the total number of seats in the general category and there won't be a fourth list for Sri Venkateswara. The college has admitted 1,096 candidates for 1,090 seats.

Off-campus colleges like Gargi College, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma, Maharaja Agrasen and Dyal Singh are also likely to close admissions for the general category in the fourth list.

On the other hand, Zakir Husain will have a good number of its courses open in the fourth list as well. Sarita Passey, media coordinator of the college said that 790 candidates have been admitted so far as against 1,200 seats. Admissions in most of the courses are still open and quite a few options will remain open even in the fourth list.

Inderjit Singh Bakshi, principal, Dyal Singh College, said: There has been over admissions right from the first list and we will have to close admissions now. OBC admissions will remain open in five courses, but all general admissions will close in the fourth list as we have not witnessed significant withdrawals so far.
