Chennai, Sept 4 (PTI) In a bid to improve educational standard in the state, the Tamil Nadu government, on the eve of Teachers' Day, announced upgrading of more than 1,400 two-teacher schools to three-teacher schools.
As per the existing norms, only two teachers were employed in primary and middle-level schools that had a pupil strength of 100, which resulted in uneven teacher-student ratio, even 1:50 in some cases, Chief Minister M Karunanidhi said in a release.
"The said measure is being effected, considering the difficulties in the implementation of activity-based learning and requests from teachers' associations. Henceforth, schools with 70 students will have three teachers instead of the present two, covering more than 1,400 schools in the state," he said.
This will help for better focus by teachers on students and a better delivery system, the chief minister said.
