Preparations for golden jubilee celebrations

JORHAT, Sept 14: The Maheswari Barkataki Middle English School at Pirakota near Teok is making grand preparations to hold the closing ceremony of its year-long golden jubilee celebrations with a three-day programme from December 25. At present, the school building is being renovated, a gate is being constructed and the school boundary wall is being repaired.

In a meeting held recently with Teok MLA Membor Gogoi as chairman of the golden jubilee organizing committee, it was proposed to hold a book fair, and science exhibition on the sidelines of the celebrations.

It was also proposed to invite Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for the inaugural ceremony. A souvenir will also be published on the occasion.

A celebration committee has also been formed with Tankeswar Chutia as president and Imran Hussain as secretary.

It is noteworthy that, the Pirakota area has produced many renowned men including– freedom fighter Maheswar Barkataki, Saniram Dula Kakoria, Konram Saikia, Minaram Bora, Kamelashwar Saikia, Durgadhar Bora, Droneswar Saikia, Nityananda Chutia, Sayaram Bora, Dambarudhar Barua and Subhadra Rajkonwar.
