Jalandhar: The Punjab Farmers Commission has advised Punjab Technical University (PTU) to offer 6 year professional degree courses for rural youth with matriculation as eligibility qualification.
Rural youth represents just 3.71pc of 56,240 students enrolled in the technical and other professional courses. This has been revealed by a survey recently done by three professors of the Punjabi University.
For the first year, students should be taught science, mathematics and English and after that they should be upgraded to the technical degree courses they opt for.
National and state level entrance exams act as a barrier for the entry of rural students in the professional courses apart from the inflated high fees and the low level of income in the families of the rural students. source: http://indiaedunews.net
