New Delhi: The Jamia Millia Islamia University is conducting admissions with a larger quota for Muslim student for the first. Minority status was granted to the university this February and under new guidelines, half of the seats are now reserved for Muslim students.

Pro Vice-Chancellor Syed Mohammad Rashid, said that even though Jamia has now minority status, but they do not want to lose their secular image. It is the first central university to be granted minority status. The National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions granted this status on February 22 this year.

Most of the courses are over with their entrance exams and the results have also started trickling in. This year, during the university entrance test for various courses, students were handed over an extra form to indicate the reserved category they belong to.
