Campus Placements for DU Students

New Delhi: Students who graduated in various streams from Delhi University (DU) this academic session especially Humanities and Commerce streams have been absorbed in various government and corporate organizations, with hefty packages.

Companies, such as Wipro and the Indian Air Force, recruited students as Ground Duty Officers. And colleges like Hindu and St Stephen's had companies like Ernst & Young, Deloitte, Facebook and Google, recruit from among the students.

Students also got recruited by some well known brands like Jaypee Group and Maruti and most students who had applied from courses such as B.Com, Economics (honours) and BA (programme) were placed.

Gulshan Sawhney, deputy dean of students' welfare, DU, said that in DU, 30 companies were registered in the academic year 2010-11 and the average package offered was RS5.5 lakh per annum. 12,000 students were also registered who appeared for placements this year, out of which 1,000 students primarily from the humanities streams were absorbed by companies.

Authorities believe that while the number of students who had been absorbed was fairly low compared to those who applied, it was indicative of what students were opting for after graduation. Sawhney further added that quite a few students opt for post-graduation after their course. So, the fact that 10% of those who had applied have been recruited it is a sign that these students may opt for an MBA in the future.

However, students who are still waiting to get placed will get their final chance on Wednesday, through the centralized placement procedure at North Campus.
