MUMBAI – DON BOSCO DEVELOPMENT SOCIETY INTERNSHIP 2009

Don Bosco Development Society ( DBDS ) – Internship Programme , Mumbai

Introduction: DBDS offers internships to graduate and post-graduate students from universities in India and other countries. The aim of these internships is to help students to review what they learn in the classroom in the context of realities in the field, to understand the situation in our work areas through research work, and to learn from each other’s experience. Interns will be introduced to the work area, to DBDS’s work and to their own role through orientation sessions conducted by our staff.

Qualifications:
Participants in the internship programme must be students pursuing graduate and post-graduate studies. Preference will be given to those who have specialized in development issues. Applicants must be sponsored by an academic institution and must have a good command of English.

Duration: Internships are for a minimum period of two months to a maximum duration of six months. Candidates applying for an internship should indicate clearly the period of internship they intend to undertake. Internships are possible throughout the year.
Role of the Intern: Interns can be involved in researching development issues, designing projects, monitoring and evaluating ongoing projects and participating in the field operations of projects.

Conditions of Service: Interns will be assigned to work with a supervisor who is responsible for providing them with a description of their duties and a work plan. Upon completion of the internship, both the supervisor and the intern are required to prepare a final report describing what was achieved during the internship. In addition, every intern is requested to complete an evaluation questionnaire on his/her assignment and submit it to the DBDS office. Interns who have carried out research during their placement with DBDS are expected to submit a copy of their completed research project.

DBDS internships are not remunerated. Overseas interns are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and for obtaining visas. During the period of internship, boarding and lodging will normally be provided by DBDS. However, in some situations inters may be asked to make their own boarding and lodging arrangements.

DBDS accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship. Interns must have their own health insurance.
