MCD to Recruit 1,500 New Teachers

New Delhi: To implement Right to Education, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has decided to recruit 1,500 new teachers on contract basis. Officials claimed that many complain have been received by them regarding poor teaching staff and hence has decided to modify its eligibility criteria to improve the standard of teaching. While earlier only Class XII and PGT diploma marks were counted, a good result in Class X will also be required this time.

Mahender Nagpal, chairman of MCD's Education committee said that they will implement Right To Education (RTE) Act and have decided to recruit more teacher. They are also looking for teachers who will impart quality education. And those who have scored well in Class X will be considered. He also added that there are already 24,000 teachers in MCD schools.

Earlier, applications had to be submitted in MCD zonal offices. But, now taking e-governance to its next level, applications as part of the selection process will also be submitted online for the first time.
Nagpal further added that earlier, Class XII result and diploma in PGT results were given equal weightage during recruitment, but now the following criteria will be used � 25% of Class X marks, 45% of Class XII marks and 35 % of PGT diploma will be taken into consideration. Of the 1,500 contractual teachers, 1,200 will be recruited for primary classes and the rest 300 will be recruited for nursery classes.
